Description
Join the School of Irish Archaeology and Butler Gallery for the Big Dig Workshop for Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday 15th June in Kilkenny City.
Children (ages 5 to 12) can learn to be archaeologists exploring the layers of history beneath their feet.
This exciting event is co-ordinated by Kilkenny County Council Heritage Office in association with Butler Gallery, & has been developed to celebrate the restoration & re-development of Evan’s Home as the new Butler Gallery site opening in 2020. Over the course of 800 years this area has had a fascinating history. It has been the location for an Augustinian Priory, a Jesuit College, a Military Hospital, a Military Barracks, an Asylum, an Infant’s School and an Old People’s Home. Through hands-on archaeology and storytelling workshops the children will uncover & explore the intriguing history and stories of this site.
Please note that children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the workshops.
The Big Dig at Evan’s Home is co-ordinated by Kilkenny County Council Heritage Office in association with Butler Gallery and the School of Irish Archaeology. It is kindly funded under the Creative Ireland Programme and is an action of the Kilkenny Culture and Creativity Strategy 2018-2022.
