Join the Choral Scholars of University College Dublin with Artistic Director and Conductor Desmond Earley as they perform a programme focussing on new choral music inspired by the evocative imagery of the natural world in traditional Irish and Scottish folksong and poetry - from The Maid of Culmore to My Love is like a Red Red Rose to Wild Mountain Thyme.

This concert will feature new music by composers from Ireland and further afield, including pieces commissioned by the Choral Scholars with funding from the Arts Council based on poems from James Joyce's 1907 Chamber Music Collection, as well as the premiere of a new piece for choir and horn based on Episode 14 of Ulysses.

The choir will also preimere a new work for choir and harp with music by Bill Whelan on an original text by Frank McGuinness: this piece – Elegy – reflects on the Buncrana pier tragedy, where five people lost their lives as their car slipped into Loch Swilly on 20th March 2016. Rionaghac-Ann McGrotty, an infant, was rescued from the sinking car by an onlooker.

Joined by a host of Ireland’s leading instrumentalists, from bodhrán to harp to clarinet, this will be one not to miss!

Conor Lyons - bodhrán
Paul Maher - percussion
Cormac Ó hAodáin - french horn
Martin Johnson - cello
Geraldine O'Doherty - harp
Michael Seaver - clarinet
Kevin Whyms - guitar
