The Coming of the Huguenots: A Refugee Crisis, a free online talk presented by Linda Taylor of the Raheny Heritage Society.

About this event

Raheny Library and the Raheny Heritage Society are delighted to present 'The Coming of the Huguenots: A Refugee Crisis' online via Zoom on Thursday 19th May 2022 at 7.30pm.

Dublin has welcomed many waves of refugees through the centuries. Among them were the Huguenots, French Protestants who fled persecution in Catholic France in the 17th Century. Speaker Linda Taylor will talk us through the various Huguenot congregations who have lived in Dublin and their contribution to the shaping of Dublin into the city of today.

Linda Taylor has a degree in Humanities, majoring in History, and has worked as a tour guide in Dublin for over 10 years. She has done extensive research on the Huguenot population in Dublin. She is a long-standing member of the Raheny Heritage Society and currently serves on its committee.

Raheny Heritage Society encourages interest and research into both family and local history. The society hosts several public talks each year, as well as monthly meetings for members on both family and local history. It has produced a number of publications of interest which are available for purchase. For further details and membership enquiries email the society at rahenyheritage@gmail.com, visit their website at www.rahenyheritage.ie or follow them on Facebook!
