Description

What Meditation Really Is

A one-day complete introduction to meditation and bringing the benefit of our practice into daily life. Suitable for beginners and for those with some background in meditation.

Meditation offers us relaxation and freedom from stress, but it is much more than this. In the stillness and quietness of meditation the effortless peace of our innermost nature is revealed.

This course is an opportunity to learn a simple method of meditation that is at once powerful and profound. We will also look at the benefits of the practice and its relevance to our everyday lives.

Time: 10.00 - 16.30 (with lunch break)

Location: Rigpa Centre, 3rd Floor, 12 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2

(entrance: glass door to the left of ‘Joules’ shop)

Registration on Saturday January 13 from 9.30am.

Workbook and notebook

There is a workbook where key points are summarised and you can make notes. The workbook will be available for purchase (€10). It is also recommended to have your own notebook to record points and thoughts, discoveries, insights, questions that come up - during classes or practice - and to make a note of the home study for each week given at the end of classes.

Rigpa

The Buddhist teachings first came to Tibet in the 8th century and were brought to their highest expression over the intervening 1300-year period through an unbroken lineage of authentic masters. To bring the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism to the West, Rigpa was founded in the 1970s by Sogyal Rinpoche, a Tibetan Lama, globally renowned meditation teacher and author of ‘The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying’. It is now established in twenty-seven countries (on four continents) across the world and was established in Ireland in 1986. There are several Rigpa Centres in Ireland, one of which - Dzogchen Beara on the Beara Pennisula in West Cork – is an international retreat Centre.

Background

The teachings and practice of meditation have the capacity to unlock our natural confidence, compassion, inner strength and creativity, and to bring peace of mind. Students can gain a genuine experience of meditation and all the tools needed to take the benefits into every aspect of their lives. Through meditation we come to know and feel connected with our true nature, with who we really are.

While this course has been developed from the ancient tradition of Buddhist teachings and practice, there is no need or expectation that students undertaking the course would decide to follow the Buddhist path. The techniques, skills and knowledge learnt can be used simply to enhance your own beliefs and perspectives - spiritual, religious or secular.
