Description

A lecture and workshop will be held in King John’s Castle and this event will be focusing on Anglo-Norman Military history and progressing to RIC military sources throughout the ages.

Members of Merriman Research, Michael Reynolds and Lorna Moloney will be speaking at the event and focus on their research on this topic .Michael is a current University of Limerick history student on placement with Lorna and her company Merriman Research.

This event will be held in King John's Castle which was built on the orders of King John in 1200. The stunning exhibition at King John’s Castle brings to life over 800 years of dramatic local history. One of the best preserved existing Norman castles in Europe, the walls, towers and fortifications remain today and are attract thousands of vistitors each year. The remains of a Viking settlement were uncovered during archaeological excavations at the site in 1900.

The Lifelong Learning Festival is the culmination of work by various partners in promoting learning for all ages throughout the Limerick region through a week of fun & engaging activities and events, which are free & open to all. This event in particular focuses on military history and history on Limerick City itself
