A fun-filled, family friendly day celebrating sustainable food, farming and community energy

About this Event

Join Foodture, Friends of the Earth and the Irish Environmental Network for this family-friendly fair celebrating sustainable food, farming and community energy in the stunning venue of the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life!

From 10am - 4.30pm there will be an action-packed line up of film screenings, talks, stalls and demonstrations as well as childrens workshops, all focused on building sustainable rural futures through food, farming and energy.

Free for all the family.

FILMS & TALKS

Drop in for one of of award-winning short- and feature-length documentaries to be screened in the theatre at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life. Each film will be followed with discussion and insights from the field from experts.

Spotlight on local farmers:

10.30am: Rare Ruminare Speakers: Clive Bright (farmer) & Dave Beecher (biological farming researcher)

11.15am: Eamonn McDonagh Speakers: Jennifer McConnell (manager of Irish Seed Savers), Eamonn McDonagh (grower & farmer)

12.00pm: Glasraí Speakers: Aoife O'Reilly, (Grower) & Saoirse McHugh, (Organic Growers Ireland)

12.45pm: We Unite

A 12 minute film documenting the journey of two organic farmers as they join thousands of other farmers and citizens in the heart of Berlin, demanding a better food system for all. Filmed during the We Are Fed Up demonstration in Germany, January 2019. Speakers: Good Food Good Farming, Friends of the Earth

2.15pm: SEED: The Untold Story

This award-winning, feature-length documentary follows passionate seed savers in their quest to protect our 12,000 year old food legacy.

4.00PM: PANEL DISCUSSION: 'Diversity: From Seed to Plate'

Following the screening of SEED: The Untold Story, the day will wrap up with a lively panel discussion on the role of agro-biodiversity in creating sustainable, rural futures.

Speakers include Jennifer McConnell (Irish Seed Savers), Laurie Westernshore (Organic Farmer) & Alain Morice (chef Savoir Faire)

DEMONSTRATIONS & WORKSHOPS

A series of free, interactive workshops and demos will take place throughout the day in the Marquee, from seed-saving to foraging to food waste to fermentation.

12.45pm: "Learn to Grow" with The Salad Project: pot making and seed sowing for children with Sheila Murphy of The Salad Project

Note: The weekend's events will be launched on Friday 4th October with a screening of the multi-award winning documentary 'In Our Hands: Seeding Change', followed by a lively panel discussion with Saoirse McHugh, (MEP candidate for the Green Party), Fergal Anderson (Talamh Beo) and David O'Donnell (head chef at Bellek Castle).
