UK Fintech

The UK is a global centre of excellence in Fintech and has been rated the number one global Fintech hub twice in the last year, thanks to unrivalled access to financial expertise, a supportive regulatory environment and a large and technologically sophisticated customer base.

In 2015, the sector generated over £6.6 billion in revenue and attracted approximately £550 million in capital investment. The UK is home to nearly a quarter of Fintech unicorns – start-ups growing into high-earning businesses valued at over $1 billion. The development of the Fintech sector has kept the UK financial services sector on the cutting edge of innovation, and has increased competition and choice in banking, helping customers and businesses to access financial services.

  • The UK ranks No.1 as having the strongest Fintech ecosystem in the world, followed by California and New York
  • It ranks No.2 for its availability of technical, financial services and entrepreneurial talent
  • Has unrivalled access to financial expertise, employing 1.2 million people in financial services
  • With a workforce of over 61,000 employees – more people work in UK Fintech than Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia combined
  • Fintech generated over £6.6 billion in revenue during 2016
  • Why invest in the UK? Supportive regulations, tax incentives and policy makers. It counts.
