THE IRISH GOTHIC featuring DR. JARLATH KILLEEN, DR. KATIE MISHLER & musicians. Presented by CULTURE VULTURES

Halloween is a time for things that go bump in the night and reading spooky books before you turn off the light. In celebration of the scary, Farmleigh House and Culture Vultures present an hour of conversation and music that delves into the history and legacy of Irish Gothic writing. Guests include:

Dr. Jarlath Killeen: lecturer in Victorian Literature at Trinity College, Dublin; author of 'History of the Gothic: Gothic Literature 1825 -1914' (University of Wales Press, 2009) and 'The Emergence of Irish Gothic Fiction: History, Origins, Theories' (Edinburgh University Press, 2014).

Dr. Katie Mishler: University College Dublin; author of works that include an investigation into the connections between the modernist writing of James Joyce to his 19th-century Irish Gothic predecessors, including Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, George Egerton, and Oscar Wilde.

Barry McCormack: Dublin-based songwriter; has released five albums that have been variously described as "the macabre and hilarious often sitting side by side" (Irish Independent), and "James Joyce's 'Dubliners' - stories of many voices turning dark doings into beautiful art' (The Handsome Family's Rennie Sparks).

This event is presented/chaired by arts writer and Culture Vultures host, Tony Clayton-Lea, a frequent contributor to the Irish Times, Cara magazine, and the Sunday Business Post.
