Description

Jane Austen, one of the world’s most famous authors, spent most of her life in the historic and beautiful county of Hampshire. Its houses, countryside and people provided the inspiration for many of her novels.

2017 will mark the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s death, and No.1 Pery Square invites you to celebrate with a specially dedicated Afternoon Tea in The Drawing Room at No.1 Pery Square on Sunday 26th November 2017 at 2pm. This is the grand finale for Limerick's Jane Austen Bicentenary celebrations and we plan to 'go out with a bang'.

  • Welcome address by curator of Jane Austen 200 - Limerick and Austen author, Rose Servitova.

  • Melissa Shiels presents 'A Ladies Toilette' - how one prepared for the day (and night) including hair, make up and all other Georgian tricks of the trade.

  • Serving of afternoon tea delights.

  • Award-winning Irish writer Nuala O'Connor in Conversation with Rose Servitova on Jane Austen's impact on literature and how she influenced their own writing. Nuala will read from 'Miss Emily' & Rose will read from 'The Longbourn Letters'.

  • Finally, the wonderful Myles Breen takes on a favourite Austen character to hilarious effect.

  • Attendees will also receive a customised keepsake!

This is sure to be a fantastic afternoon of history and heritage along with some amazing afternoon tea delights and is certain to delight all literary and Austen enthusiasts right here at the heart of Limerick's Georgian Quarter.
