Event description
A celebration and contemplation of the Autumn Equinox, the role it held for our ancestors, and the role it holds for us today.

About this Event

The Light Within invites us to walk the land in contemplation and awareness, allowing us to be immersed in the ancient energies of the land, and the teachings that brings us.

At the Autumn Equinox, we give thanks to the life and growth the sun has brought our land, and us, this year, and we begin to turn inwards, reawakening the light within us as we face into the darker months ahead.

Whichever perception you prefer to take, by acknowledging our deep ancestral connection to the land, and the role that ancient archeological sites played in ancient Irish societies, we have the opportunity to honour the symbolism and teachings they bring and reflect upon their relevance in our own lives.

Beltany Stone Circle is a hidden gem in East Donegal. There is mystery surrounding this circle. It is thought to date to the bronze age, however there is suggested connection to older monuments within the same energetic field. Stone circles were created to represent sacred ancient ceremonial sites. By taking the time to simply sit in the energy of the site, we offer ourselves the opportunity to reflect upon the significance of the site for our ancestors and the communities of ancient Ireland.

Grianan of Aileach is an incredible site on the Inishowen peninsula, in Co. Donegal. This fort stands upon an ancient fort, said to date back to the bronze or iron age, is steeped in mythological lore. It is aligned with the Autumn Equinox, as the sun rises on a clear day, it glistens through the entrance, creating a stream of light through the fort.

Some say it is a sun temple, the resting place of Gráinne, sister to Áine, the goddess of Munster. Some say it was built by the good god Dagda in honour of his son Aedh. It was a royal site of great importance, as it was there that talks were led by the kings of the Tuath de Danann when they felt under threat by the Milesians. This site continued to be of significance during the times of the Northern Uí Neills and was also seen a place of celebration and community.

We will join to simply be in the presence of the energy of the sites, and allow the storytelling and teachings to flow.
