Danny G & the Sexual Healers are doing it all again. This time it's the revamped Tivoli Backstage on Francis Street.
Marvin Gaye is known as the greatest soul singer of his generation. Throughout his twenty year career he developed from Motown hit-maker to sophisticated songwriter, tackling social and sexual politics in his own unique style. He pioneered introspective neo-soul themes, inspiring legions of singers including D'Angelo & Bilal with his trademark layered vocal style. Thirty-two years after his tragic death, Danny Groenland, singer and bandleader, pays tribute to the troubled artist and his timeless music. Danny will be performing excerpts from the award winning albums 'What's Going On', 'Let's Get It On', 'I Want You' and the lesser known cult classic 'Here, My Dear', the hits from the Motown duet years and more.
The band is completed by Johnny Taylor on piano, Alan Elliott on bass, Dennis Cassidy on drums, Sam Comerford on sax and Keith Fennell & Tim Groenland on vocals. Expect soulful renditions of modern classics performed with love, faithful interpretations & a very special guest. If previous events are anything to go by (Odessa, Bello Bar, Sugar Club), this is not to be missed.
Danny writes and performs with the group Danny G & the Major 7ths. Their album Love Joints is available from Hipdrop Records.
