The Pictures—Paris Is Burning // NYC Disco Party

For our inaugural event we will screen Jennie Livingston's legendary Paris Is Burning in The Sugar Club. Discotekken and This Greedy Pig host a 1970s and 1980s NYC themed party afterwards w/ DJs spinning only the lushest disco records all night long. We are inspired by the togetherness of this time period and feel it's perfect timing to celebrate and usher in this new era of equality, love and respect for all in Ireland. A special, handmade letterpress Paris Is Burning print will be gifted to the first 100 people to join us on the night. Those with an interest in disco, drag, fashion, house music, nightlife history, equality, film and design will delight!

Film synopsis:

Paris Is Burning focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their "house" culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. Also touching on issues of racism and poverty, the film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.
