About this Event

Whilst we are all doing our best to navigate the sometimes choppy ocean of life, sadly for some, this journey can be one filled with doubt, worry and a feeling of emptiness. “You can't love another, if you don't love yourself.” A statement we hear quite frequently, and yet for some, the act of loving ones self can seem like a bridge too far. Life can really get on top of you at times. You can find yourself completely lost and in a place that is seemingly impossible to get out of. During our difficult times, mistakes can be so easy to make – and so challenging to overcome. We need to learn how to navigate through these tough times. We need to take ownership of our mistakes and shortcomings. Embracing the power of self-love, self-care, and taking personal responsibility for our actions, can truly change your perspective, which in turn will lead to a happier YOU.

We have invited Gary Cunningham, author of two bestselling books (Joys Of Joy, Finding Myself In An Irish Prison, and, Life After Joy: A Prisoner No More), to share how he navigated through his battle with alcohol and depression - a battle which culminated in him being sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Gary will speak openly and frankly about how, prior to his stint inside, he never took personal responsibility for any of his actions...it was always someone else's fault. Gary will try to convey how destructive his self-loathing became, but he will also share how he used the transformative power of self-love, self-care and personal responsibility to eradicate these feelings for good, and he will strive to show you how you can use these tools to transform your life too.

“It';s not the time you do, It's what you do with your time.” A mantra Gary coined and lived by during his incarceration – a mantra we could all adhere to today. We have one shot at this life. So, believe in you, love you, and always take care of you.

Expect a night of giggles, tears, and frank conversations. Gary will also be delighted to answer any questions you might have, and promises to do so with utmost honesty. There will also be a facility to ask Gary questions in private, or anonymously.

We are putting the price of this event at €15, just to ensure whomever books in actually comes, and that there is a level of respect. This is not something we are profiting off, as the price of entry will just cover the basic costs of hiring a venue. So, expect no frills other than a basic room, and the knowledge and honesty that Gary has to impart.

If you would like any additional information, or you would like to suggest a speaker yourself, please don't hesitate to get in touch via email: hi@theuniversityoflife.com.
