About this Event

The Science of Sport Psychology- Relationships. Former Irish Rugby International and now a renowned Sports Psychologist, Gary Longwell , presents a lecture and a Question and answer session on his role as a Sports Psychologist.

Capped 26 times by Ireland and 152 times by Ulster , Gary Longwell was one of the leading second rows of his time. Winning the Heineken Cup in 1999 and being part of the Irish Squad the World Cup in 2003 were just some of the highlights of his illustrious career on the pitch.

On retirement from playing he became High Performance manage with Ulster Rugby and has gone on to become Performance Life Skills coach with the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland.

As Performance Skills Coach with the Irish Womens Hockey Team, Longwell was widely credited as being a major catalyst in their performances at the 2018 World Cup in London, which saw them take the Silver medal and become the first Irish Senior team to play in a world final.

Gary's talk and Q and A session will of of interest to anyone involved in Sport. Coaches, sports scientists, athletes and support staff will gain a lot from his insight. It would also be very suitable for any second level students pursuing the Leaving Cert Physical Education programme or interested in a career in the Sports Sciences.
