About this event
The Stonewall Rebellion of June 1969 was a landmark moment in the history of LGBTQ+ liberation in the US that reverberated around the world - including in Ireland. In March 1983, under the banner ‘Stop Violence Against Gays and Women’, a coalition of activists marched to Fairview Park in Dublin as part of a protest that has been called ‘Ireland’s Stonewall’.
What were the similarities - and differences - between these two events? Why are these two events seen as major moments within Irish and international LGBTQ+ history?
To discuss these questions and more, Out in the World curator Dr Maurice J Casey will chair a cross-generational activist conversation between Irish activists Hannah Tiernan, Cathal Kerrigan and John O’Brien - the latter an Irish participant in the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969, and Irish LGBTQ+ activists.
This event is free, but a small donation to Shout Out Ireland is welcome.
