Event description
Join health and housing professionals to explore what it means to hoard, and what new models of support could look like.

About this event

The Trauma-Informed Approaches to Hoarding Disorder course has been rolled out to over 1000 health and housing professionals across England and Wales and considers the psychology behind hoarding behaviours, as well as through the lens of a tenancy governance issue.

With a prevalence rate that is more than treble that of schizophrenia and OCD, hoarding disorder is remarkably unresponsive to medication, and house clearances have a 100% relapse rate without therapeutic input. Whilst the cause of hoarding is not fully known, what we do know is that nearly 90% of people who hoard have reported trauma in their lives.

This online course will consider hoarding disorder in a holistic and therapeutic context, exploring alternatives to house clearances and eviction, and looking at the positives to buying into a new model of support for this incredibly complex and often misunderstood illness.

The Trauma Informed Approaches to Hoarding Disorder course has been taken up by the Chartered Institute of Housing as part of their core training schedule, and the NHS Recovery College. It is delivered by Kayley Hyman, director of Holistic Hoarding and author of "Hoarding: How to Take Down People's Walls" and "Understanding a Hoarder's Narrative" for Mental Health Today.

*Fully subsidised spaces are available for those on a limited income, or those with lived experience of hoarding. Please contact Holistic Hoarding for more information.
