About this Event

Jennifer is an academic, writer, presenter and historian. Her best seller 'Why Vinyl Matters', showcases Jen's lifelong obsession with the 12" format. A manifesto about the importance of vinyl as a cultural object, the book features interviews with a variety of fans, including Tim Burgess, Henry Rollins and Fatboy Slim. She has written on the subject of fandom, examining how it related to Ian Curtis and Kurt Cobain. She is currently writing a biography of Nico.

Pip has been producing films for over 20 years from corporate to music videos to documentary and feature film. His debut feature film 'The Insatiable Moon', which he shot in NZ in 2009, won Best Foreign Film at Moondance in the US and Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the NZ film awards. Pip's documentary film 'Last Shop Standing' (based on Graham Jones' book) and documenting the decline of the British recod shop was released in 2012, to wide critical acclaim. He teamed up with Graham again this year in releasing his documentary 'The Vinyl Revival' (again based on Graham's book).

Graham was a former record sales representative for 25 to 30 years at a small music distributor, Proper Music in the UK. Beginning at his job, Jones counted 2,200 independent record shops across the country but by 2009 there were only 269. This revelation inspired him to write his book 'Last Shop Standing'. Research for the book took him across the country interviewing staff at 50 record shops. The book proved a great success and was made into a documentary film in 2012 by Pip Piper. In 2018 Jones released a second book 'The Vinyl Revival And The Shops That Made It Happen', which examined why there has been an upsurge in the selling of vinyl and an increase in record shops opening. Passionate, witty and entertaining, Graham is always a good listen!

Graham will be joining Jennifer Otter Bickerdike and Pip Piper to discuss the importance of vinyl and its recent revival.
