The Future of Undergraduate Technological Higher Education
Short Cycle (Level 6) & First Cycle (Level 7 & Level 8) Qualifications
The Colloquium will explore the relevance and positioning of short-cycle (Level 6) qualifications in technological higher education, and their relationship with first-cycle qualifications (Level 7 and 8). Utilising, among other things, the new data analysis function in THEA, the colloquium will present research on the changing patterns of demand and take-up for short-cycle qualifications over time. It will also examine, through a mix of sectoral and external contributions:
-
the place of short-cycle qualifications in skills provision;
-
their recognition internationally;
-
how they are financed;
-
their relationship with further education qualifications in the Irish NFQ;
-
the pedagogical and student success challenges they pose; and
-
their role in enabling entry and progression opportunities for learners in higher education.
