Description

Following on from the second meeting of the National Teacher Education and Teacher Educator Forum meeting held at Maynooth University in April 2018, the third meeting will continue to pursue discussion and necessary action points related to the two areas of School Placement and Reconfiguration of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Programmes. It is intended that outcomes from the day will inform a formal response from the teacher educator sector towards current considerations and developments in School Placement and Reconfiguration of ITE Programmes. The responses will be cognizant of primary and post-primary jurisdictions as well as concurrent and consecutive perspectives.

Outline of the day:

1.30pm – 1.50pm: The identity and visibility of teacher education and teacher educators in Ireland and the intention of the National Teacher Education and Teacher Educator Forum

2pm – 3.15pm: Professor Kathy Hall (through a live link from UCC) will discuss recent research conducted in Ireland on School Placement (https://www.teachingcouncil.ie/Website/en/Publications/Teacher-Education/Documents/School-Placement-in-Initial-Teacher-Education.pdf). This will be followed by a question and answer session.

3.20pm – 4.10pm: Two breakout sessions – (i) primary (concurrent and consecutive) and (ii) post-primary (concurrent and consecutive)

[Specific focus on (a) opportunity for providing an evidence-based study on the realities of School Placement across all HEIs, and (b) considering targeting and inviting teachers, cooperating teachers and School Placement tutors to the fourth meeting of the Forum (sometime in March 2019)]

4.15pm-4.40pm: Sharing of discussion and action points from two breakout sessions to identify common and different realities

4.45pm – 5pm: Refreshments
