2016 is a very signifcant year in Irish History and Castlelyons has its own place in this history. One of the executed 16 leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising was Thomas Kent of Bawnard House, Castlelyons. This race is to mark the 100th anniversary of the sacrifices made by the Kent Family. The race route will run past the family home in Bawnard where Thomas and his brothers were arrested on May 2nd 1916. There will be a custom commemorative medal for the first 400 entrants. There will be cash prizes for the first 3 male and female finishers as well as category prizes.
