"Time-Space: An Interface" Encaustic Painting,18th & 19th Apr 26, 10am-4pm
Overview
"Time–Space: An Interface" — A Two-Day Encaustic Painting Workshop
Presented by: Isabelle Gaborit, Encaustic Artist
Step into a world where art and geology converge. "Time–Space: An Interface" is a two-day immersive workshop that invites you to explore the deep connection between the natural world and your own creative expression through the ancient medium of encaustic painting.
Guided by acclaimed artist Isabelle Gaborit, you’ll embark on a transformative artistic journey — one that mirrors the shifting landscapes of the earth itself.
What to Expect
🌿 Daily Sketching & Drawing Practice
Begin each day with guided sketching and mark-making exercises designed to heighten your awareness of your surroundings. Through gesture and observation, you’ll capture the visual memory of place — its shapes, colors, textures, and rhythms — translating your embodied experiences into expressive visual language.
🔥 Transmuting Experience into Encaustic
You’ll then channel these impressions into encaustic paintings — a process of layering, fusing, and carving that transforms emotion into form. Trust the wax, follow your intuition, and witness your sketches evolve into richly textured, luminous works of art.
🌋 Techniques Inspired by the Earth
Isabelle will share her unique approach to encaustic painting, inspired by the dynamic forces of geology. You’ll experiment with building up and scraping back surfaces, heating and cooling, etching and layering — echoing the very processes that shape the landscape. Each artwork becomes a tactile record of movement, memory, and transformation.
Who Can Join
This workshop welcomes all skill levels, from curious beginners to practicing artists. Isabelle will guide participants through both foundational and advanced encaustic techniques, ensuring an enriching experience tailored to your creative path.
What You’ll Learn
Over the course of two days, participants will explore:
- Studio setup, safety, and working temperatures
- Encaustic tools, palettes, supports, and materials
- Sketching and mark-making diaries
- Application and fusing techniques
- Creating smooth and textured surfaces
- Achieving translucency and opacity
- Mark-making methods: inscribing, etching, sgraffito, scraping
- Relief and textural effects: dripping, splattering, accretions
What to Bring:
A notebook, tablet, or laptop for sketches, and a camera if you wish to document your process.
About Isabelle Gaborit
Originally trained in sculpture, drawing, and painting, Isabelle Gaborit is a professional visual artist with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts. Now based between lake and sea in Connemara, Ireland, she works with encaustic — an ancient wax-based medium that mirrors the passage of time and natural transformation.
Her art, deeply rooted in daily observation and sketching, captures the essence of place and the stories etched in the earth’s surface. Isabelle’s practice invites you to explore that same alchemy — where material, memory, and landscape merge
