Dr. Johanna Lammi-Taskula is Head of the Children, Youth and Families Unit at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (FI) and shows how generous financial transfers for parents and universal social services transformed the Nordic countries towards more gender equality. On the panel she is joined by Dr. Ingela Naumann (University of Edinburgh, Scotland) to discuss the challenges and pitfalls of designing parental support schemes in liberal welfare states. Both are joined by Senator Regina Doherty (former Minister for Social Protection), who oversaw the implementation of paid parental leave in Ireland.
The panel will be asked to discuss which steps are required to bring parental leave in Ireland closer to the Nordic model.
The talk is followed by a reception which will serve Danish pastries and tea/coffee.
