Description

The new Havin’ a Laugh Outdoor Taster Sessions are being launched in collaboration with the NUIGalway NEAR Health Project. Be part of the research, get outdoors and have a laugh!

This is our 3rd session out, we've tried rockclimbing, hiking and mountain-top yoga and now are delighted to introduce you to Trailrunning.

We are asking you to join us and take a simple survey both before and after the activity to assess the impact being active and outdoors has on your sense of wellbeing.

This Trailrunning package is valued at €25 but thanks to our sponsors (Tralua Trailrunning, Northwestadventure Tours, Yoga with Blaithin and Shells Cafe) we can make it more accessible to you at €15. It is designed for complete beginners but will benefit anyone looking to improve running technique or those needing to renew their motivation to keep running.

We’ll be gathering in Strandhill from 9.30am with intro and breath-work starting at 10am. A 2-4km guided trailrun will bring across the back of the sandunes, these are perfect trails underfoot to introduce you to off-road running. We’ll finish back in the village for a 20min post-run Yoga stretch-down followed by a beverage of your choice kindly sponsored by the ever supportive Shells Café.

Why Trailrunning?
Trailrunning allows you to explore Sligo's wilder, more out-of-the-way places, including glacier-carved highlands, wooded hillsides and foreshores formed by wind and wave.
It is an ideal way to improve your fitness, wellbeing, sociality and mental/emotional 'hygiene' while raising your awareness of your place in the world. As your trail running abilities grow, beaches, highlands, woodlands and grasslands become familiar and welcoming, regardless of the weather.

Words from our Tralua Trailrunning guide: ‘This will be done at a safe pace for the entire group with the focus being on ‘good running’ not ‘fast running’. Most of the session will be about getting people to adjust their stride length and running rhythym to match their breathing.’

So this sounds to us like a mindful practice as well as an exercise session and we are very excited to be able to introduce you to it.
