Description
Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind, first performed in its author's native Germany in 1906, is an essential text that uniquely places the trials and tribulations of teenagers at its core, dealing with, among others, themes of mental illness, abuse, sucide, sexuality and consent. In Wedekind's play the teenage characters suffer due to the blindness of the adults in their lives, adults who set them adrift in a world that refuses to understand them, one for which they are tragically ill-equipped. For the past 112 years this play has been adapted and staged worldwide and, in this powerful adaptation by Gyuri Vidovsky and Stefanie Priessner, first performed by Dublin Youth Theatre, it has been modernised so as to be relevant to a new generation of teenagers.
