Tree Planting to mark the 100th Anniversary of Lady Ardilaun
Overview
Though discomfiting for some Ascendancy Ireland forms the weathering bedrock of our collective cultural memory and experience. Olive White (Baroness Lady Ardilaun), born in Macroom Castle 1850, and Passovered December 13th 1925, will be remembered. A community planting of a Copper Beech, led by Ted Cook, Heritage Specialist, will take place at 11am on Saturday 13th December adjacent to the plaque that the Trustees erected in 2015 to mark the 90th Anniversary of her death. The planting site by the river Sullane, in her beloved Castlegrounds Demense which were laid out in 1345.
During the planting we will verify Olive’s claim in her letter to the Trustees in 1925 that she is the direct descendant of the McCarthy’s the ancient Kings of Munster from the 8th Century. During the event Ted Cook will regale the detailed descent of Olive White/ Lady Ardilaun and the wider family.
