Description

"April is the cruellest month"…
A rehearsed reading of T.S. Eliot’s 'The Waste Land' with actor Cathy Belton.

First published in 1922 (the same year as James Joyce’s Ulysses), ‘The Waste Land’ is undoubtedly one of the twentieth century’s most important poems.

A state-of-the-nation epic written in the years following the carnage of the First World War, ‘The Waste Land’ encapsulates thebreakdown of relationships, language, and even the very idea of civilisation itself.

Cathy Belton is best known for her screen roles in Red Rock, Philomena, and Intermission, and is acclaimed for her many stage roles, most recently Landmark Productions’ The Approach in Project, Dublin and The Everyman, Cork.

Presented by Poetry Ireland in partnership with Lewis Glucksman Gallery, University College Cork
