Guided tour of award winning veg and our decorative gardens followed by rustic lunch and demonstration by Michelin Chef, Robbie Krawczyk

About this Event

Join us for a day exploring the polytunnels and gardens at Eurotoque Award winning Glensallagh Gardens, with Michelin starred chef Robbie Krawczyk and grower Richard Speir. In the morning participants will visit the polytunnels, vegetable & decorative gardens with Richard. Elmer Kooman, an experienced horticulturalist from Fruithill Farm will also be on hand to discuss organic techniques and products to help you grow More, Bigger and Better Veg. Coffee/tea and baked goods will be offered in the morning between talks & walks. After a rustic lunch at a long table in the Tractor Shed Loft, of seasonal soups, salad/veggies and fruits from Glensallagh Gardens, Robbie will demonstrate/discuss interesting and innovative ways to use your salad and fruits/vegetables, including flavoured oils & infusions.

Glensallagh Gardens

Glensallagh Gardens is situated 3 miles/ 5km up the Bantry road (N71) from Ballydehob. The property is a long narrow strip of land on the south facing slope of the Mizen ridge. Originally a small farm of 47 acres/ 19 hectares, it was planted with 18 000, mostly deciduous, forestry trees in 1990. As well as the veg gardens and polytunnels there are extensive woodland walks and informal plantings, including >200 species of trees and shrubs.

The Programme

10.30 Meet for coffee at the polytunnels at Glensallagh Gardens.

10.45 Divide into two groups.

One will tour the polytunnels with Richard to see the many unusual vegetables from China, Japan, Mexico and South America.

Elmer Kooman will talk to the other group about horticultural techniques and organic products from Fruithill Farm.

11.30 Reassemble for Elevenses including sweet treats.

12.00 Groups will swap over tours.

12.45 Reassemble for a tour of the outside Top Garden, (veg garden) by way of New Patagonia, and then on with glimpses of the Outwash Gully, the Rainforest Gully and through the Dingly Dell to the Bottom Garden (veg).

13.15 Informal rustic sharing lunch prepared with fresh Glensallagh Gardens produce by Robbie Krawczyk at the Tractor Shed Loft.

14.14 Demonstration by Robbie Krawczyk on tasty and innovative ways to prepare your fruits and veg, including oils and infusions.

15.15 Chit chat and questions over tea.
