UCD Personalised Medicine Research Showcase
Event Information
Description
Join us on 8th June 2017 in UCD to hear new leaders in personalised medicine discuss their cutting edge research.
Widely considered as the future of medicine, Personalised Medicine is an approach to medical practice in which the individual aspects of a patient are directly considered to guide treatment planning, including his or her genetic make-up, key biomarkers, prior treatment history, environmental factors and behavioural preferences. This enables the development of personalised treatments and therapies as opposed to a ‘one size fits all’, trial and error approach.
Personalised Medicine is now coming into reach because of advances in high throughput –omics technologies and emerging disciplines such as computational modelling, molecular bioinformatics, biostatistics, statistical genetics and clinical informatics.
The UCD TOPMed10 Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowship Programme coordinated by Prof. Walter Kolch was initiated in 2015 to support the development of a new generation of scientists and clinicians with interdisciplinary expertise in harnessing these technologies and disciplines to produce tangible benefits for patients, practitioners and society in general.
