Event Overview

This FREE training event is aimed at anybody who works with or supports Syrian or other refugee families who have come to Ireland to escape war or other traumatic events. It is also open to anybody does not have a direct role in supporting families but those who are keen to learn more about the experiences of families and psychological trauma.

Learning Goals:

1. Enhance understanding of the Syrian refugee journey and the resulting complex needs for families as they rebuild their lives in Ireland.

2. Empower and inspire those in attendence in their work by sharing knowledge, information and practical advice that will assist them in their work.

3. Improve understanding of trauma, PTSD and the psychological impact of war trauma on adults and children.

4. Improve understanding of the risks of secondary trauma (trauma caused by bearning witness to the suffering of others) and understanding of how to manage these risks.


Who should consider going?

Anybody who directly supports or is interested in leanring more about Syrian Families or others who are living in Ireland and who have fled war. Previous training events have see staff from the HSE, Dept. of Education and Science, Dept. of Justice, Dept. of Social Protection and many other Statutory orgasnisation as well as multiple community groups and NGOS who work directly with refugee families or others who have survived multiple traumatic events. Those who previously attendend have included teachers, youth workers, counsellors, psychologists, speech therapists, PHN's, G.P.s, family support workers, social workers, Gardai, host family members and many others from all around Ireland. Feedback from this training event is exceptionally strong. Places are free but limited and early booking is advised to avoid disspointment.

4. Trauma, Resilience and Survival

5. Common Challenges for those who Support Familes and Practical Do's and Don'ts

6. The Role of HSE Mental Health Services / When and Where to Refer

7. The Risk of Secondary Trauma (Vicarious Trauma) for those who Support Families

8. How to protect Yourself from Secondary Trauma.


THIS WORKSHOP IS FREE BUT PLACES ARE LIMITED.

ALL PLACES MUST BE PRE-BOOKED BEFORE FRIDAY 17TH JANUARY 2020.

Tea and Coffee will be provided.

Training starts at 10 am

Parking available at hotel

Heavy traffic congestion around the hotel in the mornings, so leave plenty of time to avoid stress.
