About this Event
Urban Hosts brings together people who are actively producing alternatives to our given city infrastructures, norms and perceptions.
Established in 2013 to date Urban Knights has taken place in Dublin, Berlin, Aberdeen, Vienna and Bristol.
Your are warmly invited to the third editon of the 2017 programme, which will take place at the Pervasive Media Studio Bristol with a focus on virtual, extended and augment realities. Focusing on the promise of such technologies, we are joined by artists, designers and industry members who are looking towards potentials and limits of these emerging reality technologies.
Confirmed speakers include designer and academic Professor Jen Stein, artist, somatic practitioner and progressive larp designer Susan Ploetz and Creative Director of Zubr VR, Chris Price.
Each speaker will present their ideas for 10-mins, followed by questions and conversations with the audience. In keeping presentations short, the aim is to create a salon atmosphere where key thematics are introduced and time is provided for speaker and audience enagement. The session will be moderated by artist, researcher and Professor of City Futures, Teresa Dillon.
Emerging reality technologies are promising truly immersive experiences in high resolution, often fantastical simulated spaces. Jen’s talk will explore the potential for designing experiences that lie beyond the visual.
Creative Director of Zubr VR, Chris discusses industry trends and the application of VR in urban settings.
Drawing on her work as an artist, somatic practitioner and progressive larp designer, Susan will discuss the relation of the body and imagination in larp and game design.
