Description

Using the European Social Survey in Teaching and Research

Dr. Amy Healy Postdoctoral Research Fellow from Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick will host a seminar on using the European Social Survey in teaching and research on Tuesday, March 20th from 1 to 2pm in RD005, Rathdown House, Grangegorman Campus, Grangegorman, Dublin 7. In her seminar, Dr. Healy will describe the ESS data and discuss how it can be integrated into research across a range of disciplines. The ESS is a major source of data on attitudes and values across Europe, running every two years since 2002. It is easy to integrate into teaching and into academic and non-academic research projects. The 2016 survey included 23 countries. (Read more at http://europeansocialsurvey.org.) This seminar will provide:

- descriptions of ESS data sets (individual - and macro-level data, media data);

- a discussion of topics covered regularly and within the rotating modules;

- an explanation of how to access the data and of the different ways the data can be used (including the ESS online analysis system); and

- an outline of the impact of using ESS in research.

Please circulate notification to colleagues in your network. All are welcome. Tea/coffee and sandwiches will be provided. Registration is required for catering purposes.
