Description

Sunday 23rd June 2019 - Victorians #2 Tour:

Victorian and Edwardian Architecture in Trinity College, on D’Olier, Westmoreland and College Streets; College Green and the Suffolk Street/Grafton Street area.

These central streets are normally so full of traffic, tourists and busy commuters that they don’t readily lend themselves to recreational walking tours. The exception of course is on a calm Sunday, when the mania of the working week dies away, and it becomes possible again to really look and to enjoy. What we see may surprise you. Our tour includes spectacular bank buildings, and Building Societies, and superb 19th century Insurance and Assurances office buildings designed by many of the greatest names in Irish architecture of the 19th and early 20th century, including William G Murray, J.J O'Callaghan, Sir Thomas Drew and W.H. Lynn.

Join us on Sunday 23rd June and discover this surprising world of architectural treasure and surprises, many hiding in plain sight. This "Victorians 2" tour is a sort of "sequel" to and is complementary to the "Victorians 1" tour that we're leading for the Irish Georgian Society 10 days earlier, on Wednesday 12th June (14.30) The two tours have different routes, so may happily be done together, or separately as stand-alone events.

Please note however that the "Victorians 1" tour on Wednesday 12th June (14.30) is an Irish Georgian Society event, whereas the event described on this page (i.e. "Victorians 2" on Sunday 23rd June) is a Dublin Decoded event. Tickets for the Victorians 2 tour should be booked on this page via the green button.

The Victorians 2 tour meets underneath the arches of the Campanile of Trinity College Dublin at 11.30am on Sunday 23rd June. We will spend around half an hour on the Trinity campus, before exploring the immediate adjoining area, including Westmoreland and College Streets; College Green and parts of the Suffolk Street/Grafton Street area. A tour not to be missed!

Terms & Conditions: No refunds after 7 days prior to tour. Please check your availability carefully prior to booking.
