When: 10am-12pm, Thursday 30th June 2022 (registration from 9.15am)
Venue: Dargan Theatre, Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin 2.
Dr. Jackson Katz, one of the leading global figures in the growing movement of men working to end men's violence against women, will outline key conceptual frameworks and practical tools for engaging men and young men of all ethnic/racial backgrounds in the prevention of sexual assault, relationship abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence, including violence against LGBTQI+ individuals.
He will discuss the "bystander" approach to prevention, of which he is one of the early architects. He will acknowledge and honour women’s transformative leadership and explain why gender violence prevention is also fundamentally a leadership issue for men at all levels of political power, institutional authority, and cultural influence.
This exciting event is for everyone, but particularly men who are interested in working to end male violence against women. This will be of particular interest to individuals interested in allyship/bystander work in their organisation.
He will share lessons learned from his and his colleagues’ extensive work in professional and youth sports culture, and all branches of the U.S. military.
He will also discuss the interconnections between men's violence against women, other men, and themselves, all with an intersectional lens that links incidents of interpersonal abuse to larger institutional and societal forces, and the belief systems that underlie them.
