About this event
Join Venora as you explore the fascinating plantation village of Forkhill, highlighting its history during the 18th-21th century. You will visit the Peace Park, the Kissing Stone and ancient graveyards hearing tales of Poets and Rapparees. Immerse yourself in nature along hidden riverside trails to the to the ancient graveyard at Urney. Listen to the poetry of file Peadar Ó Doirnín at his graveside and music by Gerry O'Connor, before returning to Forkhill for a traditional musical seisiún.
This sensory experience will immerse the visitor in the history, poetry and music of Forkhll. It will enhance your historical perspective of the Ring of Gullion, its stunning scenery, and the musical culture of Oriel.
The walk is on a mix of road, grass and country tracks with gentle inclines. We meet and finish at the Welcome Inn, Forkhill. In addition, cúpla focal will be spoken along the route.
Rainproofs, stout walking shoes and suncream are recommended. Suitable for children. Please advise of relevant medical conditions.
