Walking the Poets Trail to Urney
With Venora as your guide walk through tranquil lush countryside to the ancient Urney graveyard, showcasing the life of Peadar O’ Doirnin. One of Oriels’ most famous Poets and Scholars, O’ Doirnin is best known for penning the lyrics of Mna ana hEireann, immortalised in music by Sean O’Rioda, Enya and Sinead O’Connor. Listen to Poetry or Sean Nos singing at his graveside. En route , crisscross the border as you walk, forage along the hedgerows and riverside. Hear stories of legendary warriors and life in the area from the 18th century to the present day. An immersive and unforgettable experience!
Terrain is mainly countryside and river trails. Some uneven sections and a small stile. Initial section on the road. Please wear stout footwear and bring raingear. Bring water and a snack.
