About this event
Waterford Film Centre is presenting an afternoon at Garter Lane Theatre dedicated to the film 'Barry Lyndon' by Stanley Kubrick released in 1975. Fifty years ago in 1972 some of the advance crew arrived in Waterford and took over the top floor of the Ardree Hotel and over the next two years most of film was shot in the southeast with Waterford as the production base.
Barry Lyndon starred Ryan O'Neill and is based on a William Thackeray book from 1844 which follows the rise and fall of an Irish rogue.
Stanley Kubrick is one of the top film directors of all time and each year his reputation grows. The cinematography in Barry Lyndon has been described as ground breaking with each shot similar to a classical painting. The internal night scenes were all shot using a new camera developed for NASA that allowed Kubrick to capture candlelight scenes.
Before the screening there will be an interview with some local people who were extras or crew on the film so it should be a great afternoon.
Slushee will be sponsoring this event.
All monies received for tickets will go to support the work of Waterford Film Centre which aims to help local film productions.
