Overview

In this class, you’ll learn the meditative process of bonding paper fibers without adhesives, creating stunning pieces.

Discover the ancient Korean art of joomchi, a technique that transforms handmade paper into textured, layered creations.

The best part? The skills you gain can be easily applied at home with affordable, accessible tools, allowing you to continue your artistic journey beyond the studio.

Join us and experience the tactile beauty of paper in a whole new way!

What You’ll Learn:

– **Introduction to Joomchi**: Discover the fascinating history and cultural significance of joomchi.

– **Hands-On Technique**: Learn the process of transforming Korean mulberry paper, or hanji, into organic, leather-like fabric. You’ll wet, grip, stretch, and manipulate the paper until the fibers break down and felt to your liking.

– **Creating Mixed Media Art**: Explore how to incorporate fibers, strings and other papers to create your own special mixed media joomchi art.

The process is incredibly therapeutic. Hours of manipulating the paper can feel like a meditative journey, relieving years of angst and culminating in a major transformation. Flat sheets of hanji become living, breathing pieces of art without using any adhesives, just the power of your hands and creativity.
