Living with worry and anxiety amidst global uncertainty

Course Overview

Our world is changing rapidly at the moment. Given some of the news coverage, it would be hard not to worry about what it all means for yourself, and for those you love. Worry and anxiety are common problems at the best of times, and when it takes over it can become all-encompassing. This short session will offer some tools to deal with these worries.


• What is worry and anxiety?

• What does worry feel like?

• What triggers worry and anxiety

• When does worry become a problem

• What can I do about worry

Workshop Outcomes

• Become able to look after your worry by finding a balance

• Be able to use an activity menu to stay active and avoid worry

• Use a decision tree to differentiate between real worry and hypothetical worry

• Use helpful tips to help us get through current uncertainty

Biography | Ciaran Lanigan

Ciaran is currently working as a clinical nurse specialist in mental health and has held this position for the past 10 years. He is a registered nurse prescriber since 2013.

Ciaran has obtained a BSc hons Diploma in Occupational Psychology from University of Ulster. He also has a post graduate diploma in mental health from DCU and has achieved an MSc in Nursing from RCSI. Ciaran was recently awarded an Honorary Associate by the RCSI. This was in recognition for giving lectures in the university to post graduate nursing students. He is a member of the advisory group for JIGSAW in Dublin 15 which is a counselling service for 12-26 year olds who are struggling with mental health issues. As part of his role, Ciaran visits schools in the area to talk about mental health awareness.

He meets with the Leinster Metro rugby academy twice a year to talk about Coping with Disappointment and Building Resilience. Ciaran also works for The Wolfe Group as a consultant. His role with the company involves teaching in areas such as quality, management and medication training.

Ciaran regularly delivers seminars in the areas of Stress Management, Resilience Building, Coping with Mental Health issues in the workplace, Sleep Hygiene and a number of other mental health related topics.
