Event description

Description

With increasing numbers of UK and Irish students now registered on undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, taught through English, in Dutch universities, the universities themselves are coming to Belfast, to meet students and their families
.
On foot of successful earlier events in Dublin and Cork, organised by EUNiCAS, a group of universities* are visiting Belfast, to speak to prospective students and their families. Importantly, Irish students, currently studying in the Netherlands, will be available for a chat on the night.(and they are usually the stars of the event!)

So why the Netherlands? Guy Flouch of the EUNiCAS application support service, comments that:

“All Dutch research universities are higher ranked than Trinity and Queen's. The Netherlands also hosts some extremely well-resourced Universities of Applied Sciences, with some very practical employment-focused programmes. Dutch universities are not particularly interested in your A-Level or Leaving Cert points or grades for entry. Tuition Fees (for both undergaduate and postgraduate programmes) which, at EUR2006, are already very low, can be paid by way of a low-interest loan from the Dutch government. There are living expenses loans/grants available. Add to that, the attractiveness of graduates from these institutions, to employers, in an increasingly globalised employment market, it is definitely worth thinking about”

Subject areas offered in the Netherlands (through English), at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, include International Law, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Business, Engineering, Game Design, Medicine, International Relations, Languages, Maths & Sciences, Computer Science, Hotel Management, Music, Fine Art, Arts & Culture, Media Studies, Primary School Teaching, Liberal Arts & Sciences and many more.

*You will be able to meet the following institutions: U. Groningen, Radboud U., U. Twente, Hanze UAS Groningen, Hague UAS, HAN UAS and Stenden UAS

Schedule:

18.30 - 19.30
Exhibition of participating universities, giving you an opportunity to discuss with them, informally, their programmes and admissions procedures.
19.30 - 21.00
Presentations on Studying in the Netherlands, including Q&A with Irish students currently studying in the Netherlands
21,00 - 21.30
Opportunity to meet universities in 1:1 meetings

Careers Advisors
Careers advisers, counsellors and teachers are welcome to attend the main event (above). In addition, you can also book the preliminary Guidance Counsellor Workshop, from 16.30-18.00, which will give you an opportunity to meet the universities more personally, and to quiz them (and their students) about the opportunities they are offering. You can find out about entry requirements, admissions procedures, teaching philosophies, the implicatons (if any) of Brexit, and much more.

EUNiCAS will be available throughout the event, answering a wide range of questions concerning a wide range of subject areas.
