Event description

Description

The West Cork History Festival is for everyone interested in history, with talks, discussions & screenings by historians, curators, writers and diplomats on a huge variety of historical subjects & periods. The Festival reflects the complex and engaging history of Cork while also dealing with broader national and international themes, including the Decade of Centenaries. This year we will also take a long view on the triangular relationship between Ireland, Britain, and continental Europe. It complements the variety of other arts, literary, music and food festivals in West Cork and is firmly rooted in the history, people and landscape of the area. This year, we are again running a number of field trips to locations of archaeological and historical interest around Skibbereen, as well as for the first time including programming for young people. There will also be a Festival concert, with specially commissioned-music and a wide offer of local food and drink.
