Description

City Library, Grand Parade:

When Cork Drove Fords

‘When Cork Drove Fords. The Ford manufacturing plant and the people of Cork 1917 – 1984.’

This exhibition will be launched on Tuesday 4 July at 7.00p.m. by The Right Honourable Cllr. Tony Fitzgerald Lord Mayor of Cork at Grand Parade Library and will be open to the public for the months of July and August.

Who was Henry Ford and what were his Cork connections, both to the city and county? Why did he decide to build a manufacturing plant in Cork and what effect did this plant have on the social fabric of the City? How did the plant fare in the changing world after it opened in 1919, and who were the people who worked there? Cork City Library’s new exhibition ‘When Cork Drove Fords’ looks at the role the Ford manufacturing plant played in the economic and social development of Cork city. This exhibition will be open to the public for the months of July and August.
