Event description

Description

Join us as we explore the fascinating story of Florence Burke, a famine era emigrant who, like countless other Irish men, fled starvation in his homeland only to soon find himself fighting at the front lines of the American Civil War. He did not fight for great ideals, but to provide a home for his family and enough money to support them. Florence left behind a collection of 19 letters which provide a unique insight into the life of a typical Irish soldier in the Union Army and have formed the basis of an award winning book written by his great great granddaughter, Ellen Alden.
