Event description

Description

Join Oxfam Ireland for a unique event in Bewley’s Theatre Café as they host a performance of Women Alone, a play written by Joanne O’Connor.

The play is based on two powerful first-person stories from inspiring women Oxfam works with from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda – women who have suffered unimaginable tragedy but overcame to help others survive and even thrive.

Women Alone resonates profoundly as it tells a fictionalised version of the faraway stories we hear again and again in familiar accents against an Irish landscape – accompanied by images and stories from Oxfam's own work around the world.

After the play, there will be a discussion on the important role women play in lifting people out of poverty and helping communities to rebuild after disaster strikes with Irish Aid Director General Ruairí de Burca, Development expert Dr Susan Murphy of Trinity College and Misean Cara's Colette Nkunda, 2016 Dóchas Global Citizen of the Year. Oxfam Ireland CEO Jim Clarken will chair the panel.

  • 6.30pm: Doors open
  • 7.00pm sharp: Performance of Women Alone followed by a panel discussion and Q&A
  • From 8.30pm: Refreshments

This event is kindly supported by Irish Aid.
