About this Event
The Irish Embassy to South Africa is pleased to invite you to the following event as part of the Women’s Month celebrations:
Women’s agency and lived experiences in the time of Covid-19
As South Africa prepares to mark Women’s Month, this timely discussion will provide an opportunity to underscore the tireless work of women during the Covid-19 pandemic. The webinar will highlight the lived experiences of women with the intention of bringing to the fore the role that women have played and continue to play in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. Acknowledging women's agency in responding to crises, rather than viewing women solely as victims in need of protection, this meeting seeks to spotlight women’s adaptation responses, activism and organisation during this period.
Through an interactive session, the webinar will be held in a plenary session that will promote active engagement between panellists and participants. There will be a short Q&A session after the discussion.
Participants:
Rosie Motene will moderate the discussion. Rosie is a women's rights activist, in addition to working as an actor and a TV and radio presenter. She has recently overcome Covid-19.
Pontsho Pilane will act as a discussant. Pontsho Pilane is an award-winning journalist and writer as well as a media scholar, lecturer and trainer with an interest in health, race and gender and how they intersect.
Mandisa Khanyile is the Director of Rise Up Against Gender-Based Violence.
Caroline Peters is the Director of the Callas Foundation and coordinator of the Cape Flats Women's Movement.
Bomikazi Mhlongo is a paralegal advice manager at the Flagstaff Community Advice Centre.
Attendance will be by videoconference using the Zoom platform, and a link will be provided closer to the date.
We look forward to welcoming you.
