Event description
A workshop designed to target the specific needs of women's unique anatomy - strategies for supporting female physiology in trail running.

About this Event

Women have a unique anatomy and our bodies change significantly throughout our lifetime. The changes that occur during pregnancy, birth and menopause need to be considered for us to continue to enjoy the benefits of running.

Our Women's Health & Intro to Trail Running workshop is run in partnership with women's health and fitness expert, Maggie Lawler. It will include a two hour online talk with Maggie on Saturday evening 17 th October followed by a 90 minute easy-paced guided trail run on Sunday morning 18th October. Our time on the trails will give us the opportunity to incorporate methods and techniques discussed in Maggie's talk.

Our workshop will take place online via Zoom and our run will take place on The Brockaghs.

This workshop is for any woman who:

- Is pregnant now (or may be pregnant in the future).

- Has ever had a baby and is around the time of menopause.

- Wants to manage pelvic health concerns (leaking, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain).

This workshop will address the following:

- Understanding the changes that occur during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and menopause.

- The return to strength and function of the core and pelvic floor after pregnancy.

- Learning the basic anatomy of the core and pelvic floor.

- The diastasis recti (abdominal separation) and common pelvic floor concerns including: incontinence, pelvic pain and pelvic organ prolapse (POP).

- How to return to hill running after pregnancy in a strong and sustainable way, based on the most up to date and evidence based guidelines.

- Troubleshooting common causes of incontinence during high impact activity, including downhill running.

For a growing community of women, hill and trail running is fast becoming a way to meet new people, seek adventure, visit new places and realise their strength, endurance and confidence. Hill running is a great way to recharge, keep fit and experience the beauty of nature and the elements during every life chapter.

Taking the right steps to returning to running after having a baby can help to prevent or manage common pelvic health concerns including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, back hip and pelvic pain. We want you to enjoy all of the benefits of trail running without barriers.
