Description

Introduction

In October 2017 Rockwell Automation and Hanley Automation ran workshops where we explained the background to the laws governing electrical panels for US/Canada and how those laws are implemented. We talked at high level about the laws and regulations that apply, and we discussed in principle some of the key differences in panels for this market.

We are now running follow-on events where we will ”deep dive” into the detail - looking at specific differences to be compliant with US/Canada. We will specify how to go about modifying your panel design so that you can comply with US/Canada and if you want to keep a “Global” panel design that can be shipped to all major markets worldwide.

This event, again, will be run by the dynamic duo, Ian Harwood and Stefano Moreno, who have a great deal of experience in this area. As before, we will use on open workshop format where we welcome and encourage your questions and your anecdotes of real-world experiences with this market.

We will work through design of an actual real panel discussing the regulations. We will design this panel live in MCS star and we will do the SCCR calculations using our software tool. In true “Blue Peter” style we will have an actual panel designed and built to Northern American Standards so that we can show you the physical differences and you can ask questions about your applications.

Who should attend?

Electrical Engineers and technicians design and building control panels for Us/Canada customers.

If I've attended the October event will I benefit from attending this follow up event?

If you feel that you would benefit from more specific guidance on the detail of what changes to make to your panel design for US/Canada then yes, absolutely.

Agenda

09:00-10:00 | Quick refresh on the regulations that will apply in the North American market.

10:00-11:00 | Workshop Part 1:

Designing a control panel for US/Canada market. What exactly do I need to do differently? What will I need? How exactly do I build it?

11:00-11:30 | Tea/coffee break

11:30-13:00 | Workshop Part 2:

Design tools to take the pain and mystery out of constructing your panel.

How to use “MCS Star” to build a fully UL508 compliant assembly containing:-

  • Type E and F “self-protecting” motor starters
  • AC Variable Speed Drives
  • Soft Starters
  • Load Feeders

How to complete your ”Short Circuit Current Ratings” calculations and save full documentation using our free software tool.

13:00-14:00 | Lunch

14:00-15:00 | Looking in detail at a real panel designed and built to comply with the UL 508A standard.

Show & tell session using our demo panel. See examples of:

  • Wiring standards and colours
  • Mandatory labelling & typical nameplate requirements
  • Common construction methods
  • Types of main incoming device
  • Types of branch circuit protection

15:00-15:30 | Open Q&A and individual discussion with our tech experts.
