A series of half-day workshops will commence this November hosted by the Department of Agriculture in partnership with IrBEA and the WFQA

About this Event

Hosted by Forest Sector Development, DAFM and presented by Pieter D. Kofman, senior consultant wood for energy, and the Irish BioEnergy Association a series of half-day workshops on producing quality wood fuels followed by a demonstration with members of the Wood Fuel Quality Assurance Scheme.

This half-day workshop will take place at 10am -1pm followed by a site visit to Sherlogs, Gainstown, Navan, Co. Meath, C15 HX82. The supplier is certified by the WFQA for the production of firewood and woodchip, in addition the site has expanded their business to milling hardwoods.

  • Workshops limited to 25 participants per venue, prior registration is essential.
  • This event will attract 15 Society of Irish Foresters CPD points

Discussions and Themes:

Producing and delivering wood chips or firewood

  • Harvesting and processing systems.
  • How does species, basic density and moisture content impact on wood fuels.
  • Health and Safety issues.

Fuel quality and Meeting Fuel Standards (ISO 17225)

  • How is fuel quality measured and how do I meet the standard?
  • What impacts on fuel quality?
  • Why is it important?

Information on the Wood Fuel Quality Assurance Scheme. Noel Gavigan Irish Bioenergy Association Executive will be discussing the following areas:

  • What is the WFQA?
  • How are audits conducted?
  • What does it mean for me as a wood fuel producer?
  • Information on Biomass Boilers Designers and Installers Register.
