Description

"Yo, Propagandhi! - Brands, Politics & the Broader Implications for Corporate Activism in 2019"

presented by Paudge Donaghy and Trista Vincent

Have we as marketers been too hasty in our embrace of cause-aligned advertising?

Have we become a bit punch drunk on the kool-aide of ‘brand purpose’?

Have we confused the benefits of clear and relevant positioning with partisan platforming?

The election of Trump and the rise of right-wing nationalism here in Europe speaks to an era of increasing socio-political polarisation.

With this backdrop of political uncertainty, brands are increasingly making forays into politically-motivated advertising, presenting themselves (often successfully) as arbiters of social justice. While such moves can be well-intentioned they also need to be commercially beneficial.

In this timely talk, hot, new, Dublin agency Hammer & Tongs will explore what it means to campaign for brands in a digital age, the evolving role of CSR and the broader implications for brand activism.

Attendees will leave with an invaluable toolkit that will help them evaluate potential socio-political opportunities, and mitigate risk to their brands.

Paudge Donaghy is a dyed in the wool art director, creative director, and not-so-mad ad man.

He’s spent half his life crafting through-the-line campaigns for major league clients such as The National Lottery, Failte Ireland, Denny, eir, Jameson, Fyffes and SuperValu to name a few.

Many of which have won awards, if you’re into that sort of thing.

If you're into big, fat, hairy, media-agnostic ideas that are expertly packaged and brilliantly sold then hearing Paudge present is something you'll enjoy!

Trista Vincent is a creative director, strategist and writer with 19 years of international experience in advertising and communications.

She’s told the stories of telcoms, tech outfits, confectioners, banks, booze makers and not-for-profits; produced ads across all media on four continents and has had – for the most part – a hell of a good time doing it.

In a previous life Trista was a journalist. All she’s ever been is a storyteller.

Her specialties include creative strategy and concept development, writing long and short-form brand content, new business pitches, and calling a spade a spade.
