Event description
A Virtual Summer School for ambitious young pianists who wish to dedicate a week to refining their technique & performance

About this event

A fantastic opportunity for young pianists to spend an immersive week training remotely with RIAM Keyboard Faculty members, bringing their performance to the next level and developing the skills every musician needs in their toolbox.

Throughout the week, Professor Thérèse Fahy will work with pianists on their chosen piece of repertoire, assessing video recordings of their performance (to be submitted in advance), sharing valuable insight and aiding them in their approach to the piece, giving guidance on useful practise methods, and providing coaching to help students implement her advice.

Professor Anthony Byrne will lead students in afternoon sessions on practical piano playing, guiding students on the elements of technique that are most relevant to them, and helping them to successfully apply his expert teachings with a wealth of learning techniques and exercises.

Each student will also receive a one-to-one session during the week.

Piano Teachers are also welcome to register for a place as an observer to add a few teaching techniques and exercises to their rotation, and pick up some tips and tricks for online piano teaching—which may prove useful in the coming year. Teachers of students partaking the course can also observe their students one-to-one session, to keep an awareness of the outside training that their student is receiving.

Observers are also invited to daily coffee breaks, hosted by RIAM Director, Deborah Kelleher and guests.

Learning Objectives

  • To become familiar with and be able to implement new and useful practice methods and exercises
  • To improve upon general technique
  • To improve upon weaker points relevant to each individual
  • To become more confident in performing their chosen pieces and be able to transfer their new knowledge to other pieces
