Twin Gangg
Davon and Tavon Woods were born in South Carolina and immediately placed into the foster care system at birth because their biological mother was struggling with drug addiction while pregnant. They were born very small (weighing about two pounds) and tested positive for drugs at birth.
At around 2 years old, they were adopted by a family named Woods, which is how they got their last name. However, their adoptive home was reportedly abusive and lacking in affection, leaving both boys feeling unloved and voiceless throughout their childhood.
The brothers describe significant emotional trauma growing up, including verbal and physical abuse, feeling like they were “just a check,” and struggling with identity and belonging.
As teens and young adults, they dealt with personal challenges, including exposure to the streets, substance experimentation, and mental health struggles.
One of their most notable initiatives has been walking long distances (often ~20 miles per state) across many U.S. states to bring national attention to the foster care system, share their story, and encourage compassion and reform. They’ve walked in over 20 states so far.
